Week in History: In 1950, R.O. Hardin ended 38-year run on school board

1918
Nearly 100 locals attended the Grangers Union Hall to take part in the “Old Folks Dance with music by “Tip” Atchinson on violin and Lou Crosby on banjo.
It was announced that the local telephone operator would no longer provide the time when asked by callers. The operator was instructed to tell callers: “We are not permitted to give you the time now. We haven’t time.”
1921
County supervisors OK’d a traffic officer to be paid $7 per day.
1922
The Sperry Flour Co. handed off its business to the Hollister Warehouse Co. and closed its local facility.
1925
John Zimmer was named constable of Hollister Township and succeeded the late George Austin. Zimmer had a career in Watsonville before coming to Hollister.
1927
Mrs. Bertha Briggs went to San Francisco for a conference with the grand president of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Briggs was prominent in the leadership of the Native Daughters at the time.
1945
As reported across the nation, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt died in Georgia.
1950
R.O. Hardin announced he would resign from the Hollister School District Board of Trustees after 38 years of service. He joined the board in 1912 when the district had seven teachers.
