Assemblymember Anna M. Caballero (D-Salinas) is accepting applications through Monday, June 11 from high school students for the 2018 Young Legislators Program. The Young Legislators Program provides high school students in the 30th Assembly District the unique opportunity to learn firsthand about California government and the legislative process, and prepares local youth to become leaders in their communities.
“Last year the Young Legislators Program was a success with over 40 participants from King City and Salinas,” Assemblymember Caballero said. “I am very happy to continue the program this year to provide our youth with real-world experience about the process of state and local government. I look forward to working with our future leaders.”
From June 18 to July 7, 2018, the program will consist of various workshops that will educate and empower students to identify and address issues in their community. By the end of the summer program, students will gain valuable communication and organizational skills along with leadership experience.
The program is open to high school students, at no cost, who are interested in learning about state and local government and who are motivated to make a positive difference in their community. Students must also either live in or attend a school in the 30th Assembly District.
With two cohorts, The Gonzales (Monterey County) Young Legislators Program runs three Saturdays beginning June 23 and ending July 7; The Hollister (San Benito County) Young Legislators Program will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from June 18 to June 27. The program will culminate with a park cleanup community service event and a July 13 State Capitol tour.
