Distraught woman with gun surrenders after standoff in Aromas

Police and sheriff’s officers responded to a report of a distraught woman with a shotgun at her home shortly before 2 p.m. Monday and had to rescue family members from the home during a three-hour standoff on Cannon Road in San Benito County.

The woman surrendered just before 5 p.m. after talking at length with negotiators with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, which helped out with mutual aid. Nobody was injured in the situation that occurred in a wooded, rural area of the county just off Highway 101.

Before that happened, police removed three family members from the home, including two children.
