Two county fires grow; Calfire nearly contains third

Three fires continued to burn in southern San Benito County on Wednesday, but firefighters are close to fully containing one of them.

The fires have been burning since Monday. The Airline Fire at Coalinga Road and Airline Highway was the largest of the three at 1,000 acres and 35 percent contained as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The Panoche Fire, the one involving three fatalities Monday, is at 64 acres and 95 percent containment. It started with a camping trailer blaze in the 20000 block of Panoche Road in Paicines that resulted in the death of a woman and two children.

The Eastern Fire is at Coalinga Road east of Bitterwater. It is 566 acres and is 20 percent contained.
