Updated: Casino Night postponed due to coronavirus

Updated: As of Thursday night, the San Benito Stage Company decided to postpone Casino Night due to the coronavirus. The nonprofit’s board will work on rescheduling the event at a time uncertain. The following is the original story published before the announcement.

For one night, the Veterans Memorial Building in Hollister will feel a bit like the Bellagio.

Casino Night is back in Hollister with a new home. The popular fundraiser for the San Benito Stage Company returns on March 21 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building in downtown Hollister.

The event features an array of traditional casino games. Attendees who play the games can win raffle tickets for chances at an assortment of prizes.

Casino Night raises funds for stage company activities and members – such as helping to pay for scholarships and theater camps.

San Benito Stage Company President Derek Barnes said this is the third Casino Night. The organization held two Casino Night events – in 2017 and 2018 – but took off last year while working through its mobile theater options. The organization uses a variety of local venues for its shows throughout the year, but hopes to have found a regular home for Casino Night at the Veterans Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St.

Barnes remarked how the stage company has developed a good relationship with the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization and that the veterans building is a great spot for Casino Night.

Organizers are hoping to sell about 150 tickets, but can accommodate more than that, Barnes said.

They added some more casino games to the mix in 2020. Additionally, the stage company event will include an entertainment lineup this time around – on top of the casino games – which includes singers Jenna Hernandez, singer Jula Prak, comedian Johnny Pena, and the headlining jazz trio David Huboi and the Architecturals. There will be a silent auction as well.

Tickets for Casino Night are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. There tickets without the casino game option for $25 as well. Discount tickets are available for VFW members for $30 using online code sbscvfw.
