Sheriff’s office makes arrest after assault at RV park

Courtesy of the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office:

Just over a week ago, a male was severely beaten at the Monterey RV Park at 1400 Hwy 101 in San Benito County. The male sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to a local trauma center where he underwent multiple medical procedures to help him survive.

Immediately, San Benito County Sheriff’s Detectives and Deputies began to work the case. Through a true team effort, from many of our Deputy Sheriffs, we identified Daniel Hult as the suspect.

The day after the assault, our staff attempted to stop Hult and another male in the area of McAlpine Lake on Anzar Road. A pursuit ensued where Hult got away in the City of San Juan Bautista. Joaquin Escoto was arrested. Hult was seen again in the area of McAlpine Lake. He was a passenger in a truck driven by Felix Casillas of Watsonville, CA. Deputies attempted a traffic stop and another pursuit ensued. The pursuit went from Canon Rd in Aromas to just south of the “Red Barn” on Hwy 101 where Casillas pulled over.

Both Hult and Casillas were arrested without further incident. We were assisted by CHP – Monterey, CHP – Hollister-Gilroy, and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. We are thankful to them for coming to help us out on the stop!! One of our aging Dodge Chargers fell victim to the pursuit and Hollister Towing came to our rescue. We were the ones on the “ride along” after all…Hult and Casillas were booked into jail on charges of attempted murder (Hult) and evading arrest (Casillas).
