San Benito High School teachers, counselors and administrators each week recognize students as Baler STRONG Students of the Week.

STRONG is an acronym for Scholarship, Teamwork, Reflection, Opportunity, Nurture and Growth, representing the core values of San Benito High School. Each student earning recognition is presented with a certificate signifying the honor. Here are the recipients for week of February 10 to 14:

The AVID Department nominated senior Daniela Hernandez for Growth and junior Cielo Valencia Jimenez for Scholarship. The nomination forms stated “Daniela is Baler STRONG (and AVID STRONGER!) because she has continued to persevere through difficult courses and has always challenged herself with rigorous classes–even if it meant getting a lower grade than she would have received in a different course. She truly embodies the ‘growth mindset’ we wish to see in our students, and one day she will impart this mindset to her students when she becomes a bilingual elementary teacher.” “Cielo is a perfect Baler STRONG recipient because of her constant example of wanting to always give her best in all her classes. She is motivated to ask questions, learn more and strives for greatness. Cielo is also involved in AVID, FFA, and Club Ed holding many leadership positions.”

The Math Department nominated freshman Liliana Jacobo Blanco for Nurture. Her nomination said, “Liliana works hard to complete her own work and then goes above and beyond to help other students. She is patient and takes the time to make sure whoever she is working with is as confident in their work as she is before moving on.” Also nominated by the Math Department was senior Noel Nava for Teamwork. Noel’s nomination form notes, “Noel is very concerned about his group’s understanding of the material in class. He works hard and ensures that his group is on task and he facilitates understanding through mathematical discussion.”

The Science Department nominated two sophomores for Scholarship. “Jose Vazquez has been working hard to improve his academics. He has been asking more questions and coming in for help whenever needed!” “James Gibson has been determined to take advantage of opportunities to increase his knowledge and content abilities. He is doing an awesome job!”
