SBHS celebrates 2017-18 academic successes

San Benito High School on Friday, April 27 held two rallies to celebrate the academic achievements of students during the 2017-18 school year, using the pep rally format to honor those who have worked hard in the classroom all year.
The 49-minute rallies, held in Mattson Gym, had all the feel of a spirit rally, with students sitting by grade level in the bleachers, yelling each time they were called out by student leaders from ASB (the Associated Student Body). Following the singing of the National Anthem by Delilah DeLaCerda, student-athletes who play Spring sports marched into the gym, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the “Flame of Knowledge” by the Top 10 seniors.
Teachers who support student activities were given the “You Rock” award and students who were deemed the most improved by teachers were announced. The top seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen alternately were recognized by receiving a certificate after being introduced and going to the middle of the gym floor to applause from fellow students.
The “Golden Trash Can Award” was presented to the teachers who kept their classrooms the cleanest and the four classes competed in an online Trivia Game of Kahoot, vying for class points. There were performances by the band, a dance performance, a Prom skit and a spelling bee as the rallies came to a conclusion.
San Benito High School is entering its final five weeks before finals and graduation, which take place during the week of June 4.
