San Benito County has forced 40 non-complying businesses to close during pandemic

San Benito County noted how there are now 40 non-complying businesses that have been told to close under the shelter-in-place order intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The county a week ago last reported 29 businesses had been forced to close due to non-compliance with the order, which allows certain businesses to remain open that are deemed as “essential.” Two weeks before that, the county had forced nine businesses to close under the order.

A county graphic shared in Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting showed that the 40 businesses had been deemed as non-essential, while there are five pending investigation.

One business, a smoke shop in downtown Hollister, had its business license revoked after being warned to close.

The county established an anonymous hotline for residents to report non-complying businesses. That number is (831) 636-4113.
