Resident in critical condition after Prune Street fire

An elderly resident is in critical condition and two others are displaced after the fire Wednesday on Prune Street, according to the Hollister Police Department.

The fire happened at 938 Prune St. on Wednesday morning.

According to the HPD:

On February 13, 2019, an early morning fire at a home on Prune Street displaced three elderly residents and one is in critical condition.

At about 7:05 am Hollister Police and Hollister Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire located on the 900 block of Prune Street. Officer Stephen Frates was the first public safety officer to arrive on scene. He reported the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Two individuals that live nearby were coming home from work and noticed the fire. They called 911 and had already assisted a man and a woman out of the home by the time Officer Frates had arrived. A third woman had already made it out on her own.

The fire department arrived to battle the fire and keep it from spreading onto neighboring homes. An ambulance transported the elderly man to the hospital where he was reported to be suffering from the effects of burns and smoke inhalation.

The American Red Cross responded to assist as well as Adult Protective Services to care for the displaced individuls until family could be notified.

The home appears to be a total loss and the San Benito County Fire Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the fire at this time.
