R.E.A.C.H. organizes ‘little walk’ events, Parks Challenge

The R.E.A.C.H. San Benito Parks Foundation has two programs going this summer to help locals get in shape and have fun while doing it.

The nonprofit organization is hosting what’s called “Un Pequeño Paseo” — which entails monthly walks and a “Parks Challenge” involving teams of players.

First, regarding “the little walk” events, they will be monthly with varying destinations each month. Organizers want the walks to “reflect the character of the county,” said Val Egland from the R.E.A.C.H. San Benito organization.

“We’re calling ti a little walk,” she said. “Every month we’re going to post a different place for people to gather to have a little walk.”

The first walk is set for 5:15 p.m. Saturday. It will go from the San Juan School soccer field to the Mission, Casa Maria and back through town.

“It should be about an hour walk,” Egland said. “Come have a little walk, eat or drink around town and then relax.”

After that, the next planned walk is July 31 to the St. Francis Retreat, she said.

The other activity from the R.E.A.C.H. group is an Adventure Parks Challenge. That will involve teams of two to four players who participate in outdoor adventures in regional parks.

It is a “game that is hosted by the San Benito Parks Foundation to help you, your friends and family get outside and engage in healthy activities in our lovely 35,000+ acre park system,” according to the Adventure Parks Challenge description. The challenge ends Sept. 20, and there will be prizes for winners. For more on it, go to: https://www.reachsanbenito.org/adventure-parks-challenge/
