Queens promote upcoming rodeo, parade

The new rodeo queen and the 2017 queen spoke to the San Benito County Board on Tuesday about the upcoming Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo, along with the parade.

Recently named Rodeo Queen Kelsee French said she was particularly excited about the return of the Saddle Horse Show Parade in downtown Hollister. It’s set for 11 a.m. Saturday. Along with the Memorial Roping event earlier that morning, they help to kick off the 2018 rodeo the following weekend.

“It’s been a dream of mine since I’ve been a little kid to ride in this parade as the queen,” French said.

Corissa King, the 2017 queen, talked about various events happening the first day of the actual rodeo, which takes place June 22-24 at the Bolado Park arena. King mentioned elimination classes getting the rodeo going that first Friday, leading to a western art show, a mariachi band, a taco bar, and then a wine and beer tasting. The rodeo activities begin at 7 p.m.

“We’d love to see all you out in the grandstands cheering us on,” King said.
