Public invited to audition for ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’

Auditions are scheduled this coming weekend for the “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” – the San Benito Stage Company’s summer family musical.

The stage company will host auditions at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and then at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Hollister United Methodist Church, 521 Monterey St., Hollister.

Performance dates are July 12-27 at the San Benito High School Auditorium, 1220 Monterey St.

Producer Jeanine Gonzalez said the stage company is looking to cast about 30 to 40 residents ages 8 and up.

She mentioned how in particular, show organizers are looking for at least some cast members with special talents, such as an ability to do tricks on stage and then also a variety of accents.

The show itself is a comedy about an inventor who uses gadgets to build a magical car, while his two children are the lead characters who get in an adventure.

“It’s a good family show,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez noted how the car is the “basis for the show” and how the local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter is helping to create the prop vehicle for it.

As for the auditions, Gonzalez said: “We’d love to see all faces and all ages. Bring your best accent.”
