Police release details on car crash into Safeway store

A Hollister police spokesman said driver error caused a car to crash into the local Safeway on Tuesday and that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved.

Hollister police Sgt. Don Pershall said the 72-year-old Hollister woman involved in the accident was attempting to park when she drove into the front of the Safeway grocery store.

“It was just a driving error, basically,” said Pershall, who declined to elaborate further on the cause.

Pershall said there was just one person in the 2011 Lincoln Town Car when it occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday. The car drove into the Safeway and knocked over a Redbox kiosk inside the store. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Pershall said police did not issue any tickets because there wasn’t a DUI involved and it was on private property.
