The San Benito County Relay for Life event at Ladd Lane Elementary School kicked off Friday evening and was set to close at 2 p.m. Saturday. Teams set up their tent stations before the 6 p.m. opening for the fundraiser, which raises money for the American Cancer Society. This year’s goal was $110,000 for the local participants. Relay for Life moved from its prior home at San Benito High School to Ladd Lane. With a synthetic turf going in at the high school as part of broader renovations to sports facilities, it’s unclear whether the event will return to SBHS or stay at Ladd Lane going forward, said one of the organizers, Chuck Obeso-Bradley.
