On July 1, 2018 Paul M. Casarez Jr. also known as “Coach” by so many in Hollister, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family at the age of 71.
Paul is survived by his wife; Rosalinda Casarez, Children; Paul Casarez, Mike Casarez, Angie Casarez, Lisa Casarez (Manny Freitas). Grandchildren; Paul Casarez, Alina Ruiz (Erik), Alyssa Guerreo, Greg Casarez, Andrew Casarez, Alex Casarez, Mikey Casarez, Mariah Mendez, Dayza Mendez, Nathaniel Mendez, Lylah Mendez, Alanah Martinez. Great Grandchildren; Caidyn Carter, Damien Casarez, Kaia Ruiz and a baby boy on the way. Brothers and sisters; Val Casarez (Nellie), Angie Pena, Ray Casarez, Richard Casarez, Nena Farias, Johnny Casarez (Sarah), Daniel Casarez, Isabell Motley (Marty) as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Pablo E Casarez and Lupe Morales Casarez, Sister; Rosemary Casarez and Daughter In Law; Lisa Hall.
Paul was born in Fresno, CA and moved to Hollister with his parents as a small child in 1949. Paul attended San Benito High School before being drafted into the Army to serve in the Vietnam War. He was very proud to have served his country. He served with and had a special bond with his best friend Compadre, Ray Pedregon. After completing his service in 1967 and returning to Hollister, Paul married his wife Rosalinda on December 16, 1968 and settled down to start his own family. Family was an important aspect of his life and he was a loving and proud father and grandfather. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Paul enjoyed being around his family at all times and was inspiration to everyone who knew him. Not only did he have four children of his own but he was also a father figure to many nieces, nephews and close friends. Paul had a vibrant personality that could make everyone in the room laugh with his many jokes and sarcasm.
Paul worked at Spring Groove School as a Maintenance Manager for over 22 years before starting his own business, “Paul’s Lawn & Handyman Service”. Paul went on to work for Pinnacle National Park Service for 13 years before finally retiring in 2009.
Paul was an avid sports fan, rooting for all the local bay area teams including the San Francisco 49ers, the San Francisco Giants and his favorite team of all the Hollister Haybalers. If you ever wanted to find Paul, all you needed to do was look up in the stands at a local football game and there he was. His major passion was coaching Little League Baseball. Paul coached for more than twenty years and simply became known as “Coach” on and off the field. If you ever played for the Padres then you definitely became part of Coach Paul’s family. Included in this family was longtime coaching partner and Compadre, Beto Ramirez. The two of these men complemented each other perfectly on the field.
Besides coaching, Paul loved music and he was a very talented musician. He found his calling as a drummer and played with multiple bands including a family band called the Bandolereos. He had a lot of pride of being a part of the band and enjoyed traveling to the different venues and performing in front of audiences.

Family and friends can pay their respects at an open viewing on Friday, July 6th anytime between 10:00am to 1:00pm at Black-Cooper- Sander Funeral Home located at 363 Seventh St. Memorial mass service will be at 2:00pm at St Benedict’s Church located at 1200 Fairview Rd. with a celebration to follow. Military rites will be performed by VFW Post 9242 after the Mass.
