Obituary: Julia Bermudez Casas (1944-2018)

JULIA BERMUDEZ CASAS

April 12, 1944 to September 4, 2018

Julia Bermudez Casas was born in Jerez Zacatecas, Mexico and was raised in EL Cargadero Jerez Zacatecas. She passed peacefully to be with God on September 4, 2018 surrounded by her love ones. She was the second of 13 children and was looked upon as a second mother, the eldest sister, and “la Tia Julia” by many nieces and nephews and by her grandchildren and many others as “Mama Julia”. She met her husband Jesus G. Casas in El Cargadero Jerez Zacatecas in 1963 and they married on February 22, 1964. They moved to California and lived in the following cities, Modena, Anaheim and Westminster before moving and settling in Hollister, California in 1966, where they stayed and raised their three daughters.
Julia was a hard worker, and upon arriving to California, she worked in agriculture alongside her husband and relatives. After moving to Hollister, she continued to work in agriculture and worked as a tomato processor for San Benito Foods for over 25 years, until her retirement.

Julia was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Parish in Hollister, CA. During her younger years, Julia enjoyed walking to Sacred Heart Church with her children for Sunday mass and taking them to the park thereafter. She enjoyed cooking, making homemade flour tortillas, was notorious for her homemade chicken mole. Julia also enjoyed praying and watching her Mexican soap operas. Julia was also a good listener and always had a way of reassuring everyone using prayer and words of wisdom.

Julia loved her family and was equally loved back. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Jesus G. Casas, daughters Maria Casas (Jose Guadalupe Corona); Raquel Casas (Carlos Escobar) and Esmeralda Casas. Her grandchildren, Ricardo Jesus Corona, Maria Celeste Corona, Juan Angel Escobar, Victor Manuel Escobar and Jesus Ivan Escobar. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio Bermudez and Belen Miranda and eldest brother Manuel Bermudez, whom Julia held close to her heart, brother Ignacio Bermudez and sisters Maria Bermudez and Maria de Jesus Bermudez and her grandson Carlos Jesus Escobar.

Viewing will be on Friday September 7, 2018 at 23 South Street, Hollister, CA from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. The rosary service will be held at 6:30pm. Mass will be held on Saturday September 8, 2018 at 8:00am at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
