Obituary: Judith Mesa (1959-2019)

Judith Angela Mesa departed this world on Saturday, January 26 just a few days before her 60th birthday. She spent many years in the hotel industry as an executive assistant and attended both the University of California at Santa Cruz and Golden Gate University. She was the office manager and personal assistant to her sister the artist Amalia Mesa-Bains, PhD, until her illness.

She survived 20 years with an extreme auto immune disease and despite this hardship she brought joy, humor and light to her family and friends. Even through her illness her intelligence and wide range of knowledge were prized by all who knew her. She was a long-time resident of San Francisco and more recently a resident of San Juan Bautista.

She was very loved and will be missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence E Mesa Sr., her mother Marina G Mesa, as well as her brother Lawrence R Mesa Jr. She is survived by her sister Dr. Amalia Mesa-Bains and her brother in law Prof. Richard L. Bains as well as her niece Amanda Mesa and her nephew Steven Mesa.

She will be missed by her sister in laws Patricia Bains, Dr. Mary Bains-Fort, Rebecca Mathews as well as her brothers in law, Dante Bains Sr., Charles Matthew, and is survived by her large Latino extended family.
