The Board Of Supervisors meeting held on March 19 was extremely productive as we spoke about the need to repair the first 6/10 of a mile on John Smith Road. This item will be brought back to the board on Tuesday, April 2 for final approval. If this has a simple majority vote the repairs are expected to be finished in late summer. We also approved the repair of El Toro Road south of Hillcrest and Bonnie View Road north of Sunnyslope Road. Along with Union Heights, Barnes Road and Ridgemark.
We approved a reimbursement agreement with Bristol SB, LLC in order to fully reimburse the County for internal staff time, and planning and legal consultant costs associated with a preliminary project review for the potential to build an autonomous driving vehicle test facility on the 2770 +/- acre Floriani Ranch property located within the county. This project is located on highway 25. I have asked several times if residential homes are involved in the project and every time the answer is “NO”. If residential development is part of this project I would not be in favor of the project!
The permitting process to grow cannabis was successfully passed and applications will be accepted beginning April 1 (this is not an April fool’s joke)! Our county Agricultural Commissioner Karen Overstreet will be in charge of this process. The application process to operate a Cannabis Business (“CB”) in San Benito County will open on April 1, and is adopted pursuant to San Benito County Ordinance Chapter 7.02.
All applicants are required to pay a deposit of $10,650 upon the initial application submission. Payment must be made by certified check, cashier’s check, or money order made payable to “San Benito County.” The County will not accept cash. Applicants must submit two (2) copies of the complete application, each in a three-ring binder; one (1) copy of the complete application in PDF format on a flash drive. The application is due to the County by 4 p.m. on May 31.
Here are the steps to submit an application and begin the permitting process:
Applicant to pay deposit of $10,650 for initial cannabis business permit at the County Agriculture Commissioners Office.
Make an appointment with the Sheriff’s Department for the Live Scan Criminal History Check.
Make an appointment with RMA planning division to review the applicant’s site plan and generate a zoning verification letter. Planning and Building Services will provide the applicant with an Initial Application Review Checklist and Zoning Clearance to take to the Agriculture Commissioner’s office.
Proof of deposit, background check, and zoning clearance must be submitted with complete application package to the Agriculture Commissioner’s office.
