Caltrans announced there will be nighttime roadwork from Chualar to the San Benito County Line on Highway 101 this week.
Caltrans released the following schedule for major road and lane closures for Monterey County, and the nearby work is set for Monday-Friday.
Highway 1 Storm Repair Along the Big Sur Coast
Due to past slides, State Route 1 is now closed at the Ranger Station North Ragged Point Inn and at Mud Creek.
Highway 1 Climbing Lane Project: May 11th Update
Construction work continues next week, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Drivers wishing to avoid the intersection may detour to Carmel Valley Road and Carmel Rancho Boulevard. All business and shopping centers remain open during construction.
Monterey County Resource Management Agency, in partnership with the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services, has announced the creation of a text message alert service for the Highway 1 Climbing Lane Project.

Highway 68 – Monterey: June 3 – June 7
A project to construct a 36” water line bridge over Highway 68 adjacent to the Fairgrounds Road Overcrossing will enter milestone activities beginning on Sunday night, June 3 with overnight highway closures for five nights from 9 pm to 5 am the following morning.
- Sunday night, June 3: Westbound Hwy. 68 closed–detour Hwy. 218 (Del Rey Oaks Blvd);
- Monday night, June 4: Westbound and Eastbound Hwy. 68 closed–detour Hwy. 218;
- Tuesday night, June 5: Westbound and Eastbound Hwy. 68 closed—detour Hwy. 218;
- Wednesday night, June 6: Westbound and Eastbound Hwy. 68 closed—detour Hwy. 218;
- Thursday night, June 7: Westbound Hwy. 68 closed—detour Hwy. 218.
Highway 68 – Salinas River: June 4 – June 8
There will be alternating lane closures on eastbound Highway 68 between the Reservation Road and Hunter Lane for bridge work. The work will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Highway 101 – Salinas: June 5
Daytime maintenance work along southbound & northbound Highway 101 from Spence Road to Airport Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Highway 101 – Chualar to the San Benito County Line: June 4 – June 8
Night time striping along Highway 101 between Potter Road and San Juan Road from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
