A military training ordnance was discovered Thursday at the airport dog park. City staff discovered the explosive device while digging and repairing the park. It was unknown if the device still had an explosive charge.
City staff initiated emergency safety protocols. The Hollister Police Department responded and requested mutual aid from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, which in turn called the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad.
Members from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad safely moved the device further away from San Felipe Road to a nearby open field and detonated the device.
