Library wraps up Summer Reading Program with carnival

The San Benito County Free Library wrapped up its summer reading program Thursday, with dozens of children and parents coming to the facility to take part and receive a free book.

All community members were invited to take part in the annual summer reading program. Librarian Nora Conte on Thursday said the library had been approaching 500 participants as of Thursday when the children and parents started streaming in for the program.

All participants who finished their reading goals for the summer received a free book and were entered to win a free Kindle Fire tablet. Also, children and teens who completed their goals received a certificate for a free mini pizza from Mountain Mike’s, a free sprinkle cookie from Lighthouse 55 Bakery, and a free mini shave ice from Ohana Shave Ice.

Teen activities began June 12, while children ages 0-12 started June 14. Teens took part on Tuesdays from 2-3:30 p.m., with children on Thursdays at the same times. The finale Thursday included a Children’s Carnival at the library.
