HSD leaders present on Noche de Familia nights

Courtesy of the Hollister School District:

The Migrant Education Departments of San Benito County have partnered with local health agencies to present three events called “Noche de Familia”– A Mental and Physical Health Series.

The first two events have been held on Feb. 27 and March 5 at San Benito High School. The more than 100 parent attendees have been treated to dinner and day care has been provided.

Each night has opened with a keynote speaker. Hollister Board of Trustees Member Carla Torres-Deluna was honored to be chosen as the keynote speaker for the Feb. 27 Noche De Familia. Parent participants were appreciative of the way that Trustee De Luna spoke from the heart.

Hollister School District Superintendent Diego Ochoa was selected to speak at the March 5 Noche De Familia. He spoke to parents about the importance of self-care. His message to the parents was “You are your child’s first teacher.”

There is a great deal of excitement for the final installment of the Noche De Familia because California State Assemblymember Robert Rivas will serve as the keynote.

After the keynote address, the workshops focus on helping Migrant middle/high school students and their families manage mental and physical wellness. Workshop topics include healthy meal planning, strategies for coping with stress and substance abuse prevention. There will also be  zumba and yoga sessions as well as free dental screenings for the children in daycare.

Noche De Familia is a  fun and informative event promoting a holistic approach to self care through  mental and physical wellness for our our Migrant students and families. Please join us!
