HPD: Watch for heavy winds

The Hollister Police Department reissued the following warning from the National Weather Service:

The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to 4 PM PST this afternoon.

* WINDS…South to southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph late this morning through early afternoon. South winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts 50 to 60 mph develop Wednesday.

* TIMING…Gusty winds develop late this morning and continue into the early afternoon. An even stronger wind event will develop early Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night as a strong cold front moves through the Bay Area.

* IMPACTS…Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NORTHERN SALINAS VALLEY/HOLLISTER VALLEY AND CARMEL VALLEY … SOUTHERN MONTEREY BAY AND BIG SUR COAST … SANTA LUCIA MOUNTAINS AND LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST

Instructions:A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult…especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. A High Wind Watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph…or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
