Hollister trustees approve extensions for assistant superintendents

The Hollister School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve three-year contract extensions for the district’s two assistant superintendents during their July 23 meeting.

The terms of their employment contracts now match that of Superintendent Diego Ochoa.

Ochoa said the following: “It was important to me that both of these educators have long-term contracts because our success depends on our work as a team.”

The district has rounded out the senior management team since hiring Superintendent Ochoa in February 2019. The district restructured the management team in May 2019 as part of the strategic plan to reduce the size of the district office and increase site-based positions.

Erika Sanchez is responsible for the district’s human resources department.

“Providing Erika Sanchez with a contract extension sends a strong message to all employees in the district that her work is valued and that they can expect to see her in that position for years to come,” Ochoa said.

Board member Carla Torres DeLuna voiced her support for the extension as well.

“I think it’s great to have consistency and stability,” she said.

Gabriel Moulaison is responsible for the district’s business services and was recently profiled regarding his involvement in bringing to light the cash reconciliation issue that affected school districts in San Benito County.

Board President Stephen Kain stated the following: “I have not come across a person who is more knowledgeable about school finances than Gabriel.”

Board Member Elizabeth Martinez recognized him for being instrumental in evaluating the district’s finances.

“Gabe’s work to go above and beyond in amazing. I have to publicly say that your work has demonstrated how much you care,” Martinez said.

Board Clerk Robert Bernosky said, “Erika and Gabe appear to be firing on all cylinders as a team.”
