Hollister City Council members are moving ahead with permitting and establishment of a second medicinal marijuana dispensary in the city.
Council members directed staff Monday to work with Higher Level of Care to prepare documents for the permitting process.
The city permits up to two medicinal marijuana dispensaries here. The city is currently working with Monterey Bay Alternative Medicine to finalize the establishment of its dispensary.
On Aug. 20, the council authorized staff to open the application process for the second permitted medical dispensary. The application period ran from Aug. 27 to Sept. 28, and two applications were received. The Cannabis Review Committee reviewed the applications and determined that the only qualified application was Higher Level of Care, according to the city council agenda. Factors included location, readiness and past performance, according to the city agenda on the matter.
A prospective location for the dispensary was not listed in the agenda, but city officials have said the shops will be in the industrial section of Hollister near the airport.
