The Hollister Police Department arrested two men for possession of firearms.

On August 2, 2019, at about 10:37 p.m., Officer Evan Umstead was on patrol in the area of San Benito Street and Fourth Street when he made a car stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation.

Officer Umstead contacted the driver, Jorge Ivan Jaramillo Regalado (29), and his passenger, Daniel Cortez Arango (30) from Hollister.

Officer Umstead discovered Mr. Regalado, a resident of Salinas, was on probation for drugs and firearms violations. He also recognized Mr. Regalado as the same person arrested earlier this year for possession of firearms.

As Officer Umstead was conducting his investigation, he discovered a loaded handgun in the vehicle accessible to both the driver and passenger.  There was also extra ammunition found in the vehicle and Regalado was found to have drug paraphernalia located on his person.

Regalado was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle with a prior felony conviction, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon while not being the owner, a felon in possession of ammunition, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Arango was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding these investigations is requested to contact Officer Evan Umstead at 831-636-4330. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.
