Hollister man suspected of breaking into car after checking vehicles

Hollister police Tuesday night arrested a man suspected of breaking into a vehicle

According to a statement released Wednesday by police:

On August 20 at about 10:49 pm, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of McCarthy Street for a male seen checking car doors. Before officers arrived the caller said he heard a nearby car door slam shut.

Officers arrived and began to search the area where the suspect had been seen. Upon seeing a garbage bag full of recyclables leaned against a van, officers stopped to investigate.

Officers looked into a van and saw a person hiding inside. The person was identified as being James Infante, 18, who is a Hollister resident. Infante told officers the vehicle belonged to a family member that lives nearby.  Officer determined neither of the statements was true.

Upon searching Infante, officers found several tools commonly used for burglary, especially vehicle burglary.

Infante was arrested and booked on the charges possession of burglary tools, prowling, and tampering with a vehicle
