A 32-year-old Hollister man was killed in a solo vehicle wreck on San Felipe Road south of Highway 152 on Sunday night.
The victim was Michael Vincent Giacalone, according to Capt. Eric Taylor with the San Benito County Coroner’s Office.
Shortly after 9 p.m., the driver was northbound in unincorporated San Benito County driving at a high rate of speed, according to the California Highway Patrol. For unknown reasons, the drive lost control of the 2003 Honda Accord, left the road and collided with a tree. The vehicle overturned and came to a rest in an orchard east of San Felipe Road.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role, and the investigation is ongoing.
