Hollister hires search firm to help find new city manager

Hollister council members Monday approved hiring a search firm to find a new city manager.

Council members voted unanimously to allocate $25,000 for an agreement with CPS HR Consulting to conduct an executive recruitment for city manager.

City Manager Bill Avera in February announced he would retire in November. There had been some hesitation among council members about whether to wait and bring on an interim city manager until Avera is gone, but the city ended up hiring the search firm Monday in a unanimous vote.

Come November, Avera will have worked at the city for 25 years, including the past six as city manager. Avera has said he announced his plans so early so the council had plenty of time to find a successor, and that he may consider teaching in retirement.
