Hollister district conducting phone surveys to assess food, technology needs

Courtesy of the Hollister School District:

The Hollister School District is taking the unprecedented step of conducting a district-wide phone survey of all student households. The phone survey will help the district figure out how to feed every child, educate every child, and provide technology support for all needy households.

The district brought back all site secretarial staff, district special education secretarial staff and all migrant education staff on Monday, March 23, 2020 to: (a)  call all households to update phone numbers in the student database (b) make sure we have permission from each household to receive emails and phone calls and (c) survey families to see if students have been getting food,  getting student packets, need a chromebook at home or need high speed internet access.

Once the survey is completed, the district will set up technology device plans for students at each school. Parents will be asked to drive up to their assigned school, on their assigned date, to “check out” their device. Students will then be able to complete work online, attend online classes, and submit their work online. Superintendent Diego Ochoa said, “Our goal is to contact every parent and make sure that we know how many households need help with food, packets, and technology. The employees in our district are incredible and they already made phone contact with over 900 families on day one. We’ll be done by Wednesday (3/25) afternoon.”

During the phone calls home, the district is also reminding households that Week 2 Student Packets will be available at all sites (excluding GH/HDLA) on Wednesday and Thursday from 10am – 1pm. The district will also post the Week 2 Student Packets online at www.hesd.org.For more information, please contact Superintendent Diego Ochoa at [email protected].
