Gavilan President: Summer is great time for classes, activities

Welcome to June!
The campus was quiet for a few weeks between the end of spring and the start of summer session on the 18th. The summer is a great time to take accelerated classes in a six week format and get a jump start on the fall semester. Plus we are offering sports camps for kids, boot camps and more! All services are open and ready to serve you.
Speaking of sports, we are so proud that our congressional representative, Jimmy Panetta recently wore a Gavilan College Baseball jersey in the Congressional Baseball Game. Go Rams!
I hope that many of you had the chance to attend the 98th annual commencement on May 25th. Although the weather was cool, we had more than 3,000 people in attendance…an all-time record for the college and a wonderful event for the community. Jenny Dearborn from SAP was our keynote and her speech touched the hearts and minds of our students. We are proud of all of our graduates…all 901 graduates who earned 1,494 degrees and certificates this year! We know that each of our new alumni will take their Gavilan educational experience into the world and make a lasting change.
Over the summer months Gavilan will be preparing for our “Year of Service” ahead. In the fall we will welcome Denee Pescarmona, our new Vice President of Academic Affairs, plus a new faculty member in Physics, celebrate the opening of the Ram Athletic Complex and more.
Until then, I hope you enjoy the beauty of the Gavilan campus in summer. Stop by my office and say hello, and we can walk down to the duck pond and talk about the future….there are exciting changes ahead for the college and the community.
