Gavilan president: Saddened by violence, counseling services offered

Courtesy of Gavilan College President Dr. Kathleen Rose:

Today Gavilan College President Dr. Kathleen A. Rose sent a message to the college and community:

By now you have heard the horrific news of the late Sunday afternoon tragedy at the Gilroy Garlic Festival and the updated information of casualties and injuries. The campus is closed today to serve as a reunification center and to support ongoing response activities.

The College has been a central part of the Festival since its start 41 years ago. We are beyond saddened at this display of violence and will be offering counseling services through community agencies at the college in the days ahead for any who would benefit from care.

We are a community (and a college) that comes together in times of deep grief and ensures that no one is left without connection. Please reach out to my office if you have questions during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Kathleen A. Rose Ed.D.,
Superintendent/President
