Gavilan campus closes for day after Garlic Festival shooting

In light of the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting Sunday, the Gavilan College campus is closed Monday so it can continue acting as the reunification center for the tragedy.

At least one gunmen reportedly opened fire at the final day of the Garlic Festival on Sunday evening, killing three people before being shot and killed by police.

While police continue to update the public on details, Gavilan College released the following over social media late Sunday:

Tonight we are heartbroken by the tragedy at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, which has impacted many of our students, staff, friends, neighbors, and families. Gavilan’s Gilroy campus is serving as the reunification center for those evacuated. As we continue to support the crisis response, the Gilroy campus will be closed on Monday, July 29. Other Gavilan College locations will remain open, and updates will be posted during the day.
