County: Southside Road to reopen this week after landslides

San Benito County has announced Southside Road is reopening today.

According to the announcement:

The San Benito County Resource Management Agency has announced that beginning Monday, September 24 Southside Road will re-open to through traffic.

The section of Southside Road between Blossom Lane and Tyler Trail has been closed since an initial landslide in late May. In the interest of public safety, the road was closed to all through traffic while the County worked with the Don Chapin Company to clean up the slide and stabilize the hillside. During the clean-up effort the hillside slid additional four times, delaying the opening of the road.

The County is currently working with Earth Systems, a geotechnical engineering firm, to investigate the causes of the slide and to develop a strategy for additional slope stabilization in the area. This work will continue over the next few months and may require additional temporary road closures.
