Two cleanup opportunities for local volunteers are coming up.
The first one will take place 9 a.m. to noon Saturday on International Coastal Cleanup Day 2018. Locally, the Friends of the San Benito River will host a gathering to draw volunteers on a cleanup effort. According to an announcement, the local organization is joining with Dee Slykas, Graniterock Co. and Recology to clean up the Hospital Road area of the San Benito River bed.
Volunteers are expected to meet on the Southside Road side of Hospital Road. Waivers will be required, and food will be made available, according to the group.
The second upcoming cleanup event is the fall Downtown Cleanup hosted by the Hollister Downtown Association. It is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 27 in downtown Hollister.
The HDA welcomes everyone to bring brooms, dustpans, gloves and shovels and help get downtown in tip-top shape.
