CHP: Truck ran red light, causing fatality

The California Highway Patrol released more details on the early Saturday traffic collision in Hollister that claimed the life of a 22-year-old Gilroy woman.

The accident happened at 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Highways 25 and 156. It resulted in the death of Yanelly Garcia Lobato of Gilroy.

Lobato was among four passengers in a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 24-year-old Gilroy woman. Another woman and man also sustained major injuries in the crash, including the 48-year-old driver of the same car.

The driver of a 2007 Ford F-550 also involved in the collision – 34-year-old Israel Morales of Salinas – sustained minor injuries, according to the CHP.

The accident happened with the truck was eastbound on Highway 156 west of 25. The car was northbound on Highway 25 south of 156 when the vehicle continued into the intersection with a green light.

The truck ran a red light and collided with the left side of the car, causing it to spin out of control into a signal light.

The CHP in the press release did not indicate whether charges would be pressed.
