CHP: Motorcyclist killed after semi driver ran red light at Highways 25 and 156

A Gilroy man died Wednesday morning when a semi-truck drove through a red light at Highways 25 and 156 and collided with a motorcycle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 10:18 a.m., the man was westbound on Highway 156 at about 55 mph on a 2009 Piaggio motorcycle approaching the intersection with a green light. For an unknown reason, a 28-year-old male from Modesto in a 2010 Kenworth semi drove through a “steady” red signal and collided with the motorcyclist in the intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the semi, Benjamin Boyso, was uninjured.

Weather conditions were noted as clear and dry at the time. The incident remains under investigation. Citizens with information about the collision are asked to contact Officer Tiffany Quintana at (408) 848-2324.
