Change allows faster return for fire OT on outside incidents

Hollister council members approved a change Tuesday that will allow the city to receive reimbursements quicker for firefighters assigned to incidents in outside counties.

Fire Chief Bob Martin Del Campo at Tuesday’s meeting explained how the new process authorized use of an automated data system, whereas before the change Hollister was under a manual entry system for those assignments “where basically we’re filling out time cards.”

The chief said it would take “several months” for the city to receive reimbursement on those overtime hours for incidents like the Cranston Fire in Riverside County and the Carr Fire in Shasta County, where Hollister firefighters were recently deployed.

“With this automated system, it should take no longer than 30 days to 60 days depending on how heavy the incident season is.”
