On Oct. 9, the Hollister Police Department worked with our local cannabis dispensary, Genesis Marketplace, to ensure only legal and compliant products are available for sale.
On Oct. 9, the Hollister Police Department’s Cannabis Safety officer learned of an investigation being conducted by the Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC) into an illegal cannabis manufacturer/distributor producing illegal vape cartridges and edibles. This southern California-based company, Kushy Punch, has licenses in the state to manufacture and produce cannabis products but is now accused of producing illegal products under the same name.
Hollister Police’s Cannabis Safety Team regularly works with the local legal cannabis industry. The safety team was able to quickly meet with staff at Genesis Marketplace to work together on this possible problem.
Although the dispensary carried edibles from Kushy Punch, dispensary staff were already warning the general public of the investigation and did not have the items displayed for sale.
Police staff and Genesis management staff inspected the inventory and reviewed testing result paperwork provided by the distributor of the products. Discrepancies between some of the testing results and the actual packaging of the Kushy Punch products were found. Without hesitation, Genesis managers voluntarily gathered products in question and returned them to the distributor.
Since opening the Genesis Marketplace has been fully cooperative in the Hollister Police Department’s continuing goal of having any local cannabis business be secure and compliant with all state and local laws.
Sal Palma of the Genesis Marketplace stated the following:
“The safety and well-being of our customers and patients is our top priority. It is unfortunate that some companies are willing to operate outside the lines of legality, but we will continue to act as the safety net between those bad actors and our clientele.”
