Calendar Picks: Re-live Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’ in San Juan

Looking for something to do this weekend? If you’re an Alfred Hitchcock fan, there’s a great option Saturday with the “Vertigo” event put on by the San Juan Bautista State Historic Park. One of Hitchcock’s signature films and ranked in the Top 10 of the American Film Institute’s Top 100 movies of all time, “Vertigo” was partially filmed at the Mission in San Juan Bautista. Below are details from this weekend’s event along with other weekend activities in San Benito County:

“Vertigo” event in San Juan

The event is at the San Juan Bautista State Historic Park on Saturday. A tour starts at 3 p.m. and is one and a half hours long. It is $15 per person. According to an announcement on the event: Travel deeper into Vertigo with a lecture on the mystery of Hitchcock at 5 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel Saloon for $10 per person. Then, experience “Vertigo” under the stars, bring lawn chairs and blankets. The movie begins about 8:10 p.m. and is free.

Fair Kick-Off Dinner

The San Benito County Fair Kick-Off Dinner is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at Bolado Park. Organizers will have a skirt steak dinner with fresh sides provided by some of the county’s best local farmers. Raffles, an auction and some fun activities will give participants a chance to support and celebrate the 2018 fair. Call 831-628-3421 for questions.

Gavilan Jazz Festival

The 2nd Annual Jazz Festival is set for 2 p.m. Sept. 30. It will feature the Dahveed Behroozi Quartet, Nate Pruitt Group, Super Soul Brothers, and the Gilroy High School Jazz Band. The prices include $15  for general admission, and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets will be sold at Booksmart in Morgan Hill, Gavilan College Bookstore, the Morgan Hill site, or at the door. Jazz fans can also buy tickets at brownpapertickets.com. Gavilan College is located at 5055 Santa Teresa Boulevard in Gilroy.
