Calendar Picks: Discovery Classic cycling event tours county sights

Discovery Classic bicycle event

According to the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the Discovery Classic: Come to the cycling event of the year in Hollister. Ride a challenging 50-mile Gravel Grinder (1/3 private maintained double tracking trails) and a leisurely 20-mile Family Fun ride. Ride past wineries, ranches, organic farms and enjoy a peaceful ride. Also, join us for a Vendor Expo at the Veterans’ Memorial Building in downtown Hollister. The event is listed as 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Versatility Ranch Horse
This weekend at Bolado Park, the event center welcomes The Western States Versatility Ranch Horse Association Year End Finals and American Quarterhorse Association AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse Show. Versatility Ranch Horse is the one of the fastest growing disciplines in the Western horse world. Versatility has experienced phenomenal growth domestically and internationally. Versatility is the following events: Reining, Cowhorse (down the fence or boxing, depending on rider level), Cutting, Ranch Riding, Ranch Trail, and Confirmation. The Western States Finals includes competitors from California — Golden State Versatility Ranch Horse Association (GSVRHA) and Arizona — Arizona Versatility Ranch Horse Association (AZVRHA). We have riders of all ages and levels, from Youth to Select and from Novice to Advanced and Open. Competitions start at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and are free to the public to attend and watch in the Main Grandstand.
City Folk at Aromas Grange Hall
City Folk With Keith Greeninger and special guest Alisa Fineman Returns to the Aromas Community Grange Hall at 4 p.m. Sunday. As part of their current tour, the acoustic trio will play with guest Alisa Fineman. They will reunite for a special early Sunday evening of music to benefit the Beautiful 105 year old Aromas Community Grange Hall. For tickets, go to brownpapertickets.com.
