Babe Ruth all-stars take fourth in regionals

The 15-U Babe Ruth baseball team from San Benito County took fourth place in the regional tournament held in Surprise, Ariz.

The team’s Facebook account noted Thursday how the local all-star squad finished its run in fourth place in the 10-team tournament.

The Hollister Babe Ruth 15-year-olds won the state title and earned a spot in a regional tournament in Surprise, Ariz. The team earned a spot in the Pacific Southwest Regional tournament against nine teams from five states and one territory. The team had done so undefeated, winning four games in the state tournament.

Players included Thomas Breen, Trevor Cordova, Jared Esparza, Braydon Etheridge, Eddie Gonzales, Eli Hatchett, Ryan Io, Tyler Kashiwagi, Andrew Minana, Noah Perez, Anthony Pieracci, Zac Sims, Chris Soto and Andrew Tobias.

San Benito’s 15-year-old All Stars need your help getting to Arizona for the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament.  These boys went 2-0 in the District 1 tournament and 4-0 in the Central California State tournament to become the Central California representatives. The 15-year-old state tournament was held July 6-11, according to the Babe Ruth website.

As for results, the local team defeated Guam 8-1 to open the tournament but then fell 10-0 to Hawaii. They then defeated South Lake Tahoe 15-1. The team then lost to the Northern California representative, Bel-Mateo, in the game to reach the semifinals, according to the Daily Journal in San Mateo.
