Arrest made after fatal crash on Bolsa

The fatality victim in Wednesday’s traffic collision on Bolsa Road has been identified, and an arrest was made in connection with the incident.

Guillermo Cruz, 31, of Coachella, died at the scene Wednesday when a 2005 Chevrolet ran off the road and collided with a concrete pillar in the 600 block of Bolsa Road. Cruz had been the front-seat passenger.

Pedro Gutierrez Flores, age 23 from Mecca, was the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet, while the CHP noted in a statement that the crash is under investigation and alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Two back-seat passengers in the vehicle, a 22-year-old from Coachella and a 55-year-old from Sinaloa, Mexico sustained major injuries, according to the CHP. They were transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center.

Gutierrez Flores also sustained major injuries, while the CHP noted he has been arrested.

He had been driving at an undetermined speed shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday northbound on Bolsa Road north of Bloomfield Avenue when the vehicle ran off the road and collided with the pillar. Emergency personnel extricated the three surviving occupants before their transport to the hospital by Cal-Star.

Bolsa Road was closed between Carnadero and Bloomfield avenues for about two and a half hours.
