Arco robbery suspect to have trial scheduled

The suspect in the November armed robbery at the Hollister Arco gas station is set to have his jury trial scheduled at a hearing next week.

Joshua H. Sandoval, 19, faces a trial setting at 9 a.m. Thursday at the San Benito County Courthouse, according to records. He is represented by attorney Pamela Brown.

The suspect arrested robbery at the Arco gas station in Hollister has been charged with felony robbery, felony threatening a crime with intent to terrorize, and six misdemeanors. The misdemeanors include counts of public intoxication, possessing narcotics, resisting an officer and entering a noncommercial dwelling.

The Hollister Police Department since the initial arrest has been seeking the public’s help identifying the second of two suspects in a robbery from the Arco gas station on Gateway Drive.

The defendant waived a preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for February. A judge at a preliminary examination decides if there’s enough evidence for a jury trial.

According to the police report from the Nov. 11 robbery:

On Nov. 11, a little after 2 a.m., two males entered the Arco gas station at 301 Gateway Drive, and both approached the counter. One of the suspects produced a large knife and demanded money. The store’s clerk feared for her safety and handed over all of the money that was in the cash register.

An extensive investigation including K-9 deployment was conducted but the suspects were not located that evening.

While conducting an investigation regarding another matter, officers were able to identify one of the suspects as Joshua Sandoval, 19, of Hollister. Sandoval was arrested and booked on the charge of armed robbery.

The second male remains unidentified. He was described as a Hispanic male adult about 180 pounds with a thin mustache.  He was said to be wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket. He is seen here wearing the 49ers beanie cap.
