Agenda: City to talk 400 block, tennis court agreement, new positions

Hollister City Council members will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St., to consider the following:

Legal conference on 400 block

In closed session, council members will hold a conference with legal counsel over the 400 block of San Benito Street development. This comes weeks after Mayor Ignacio Velazquez had an attorney send a letter to the city claiming Hollister would violate its own zoning code regarding density limits under plans for the parcel. The city sold the 400 block to the Community Foundation for San Benito County and Del Curto Bros. to develop a multi-use project that includes a Philanthropic Center, condos and commercial units. The mayor is against the project and is now questioning the density.

Temporary street closures

The city is considering several routine street closures for events that include Kids at the Park in June, Treat Streets for Halloween, a Super Hero 5k run on July 27, and the Saddle Horse Parade on June 22.

Management analyst positions

The city is looking at funding three new management analyst positions for the administrative services, city manager and management services departments.

New fire department positions

The city is reviewing whether to create three new fire fire captain and three new fire engineer positions.

Use of SBHS tennis courts

This item would approveand authorize a contractbetween the City of Hollister and the San Benito High School District, effective January 1, 2019, that would allow the city to use the tennis courts located at the high school at 1220 Monterey St., Hollister for public use on Saturdays and for city-supervised community recreation programs.

Medical cannabis permit

The city will consider a regulatory permit for Higher Level of Care to operate a medical cannabis dispensary at 1802 Shelton Drive in Hollister.

General plan progress report

The council will hear an annual report about progress on the general plan, but it comes as the council considers the launch of an update to the document that guides city growth.

Legislative recess

Council members will consider whether to take off meetings for the entire month of July as officials have done in recent years.
