12 Days of Giving campaign breaks record with nearly $153k raised

The 12 Days of Giving campaign raised a record-smashing amount of nearly $153,000 in the 2018 campaign.

Vicki Fortino, San Benito Coordinator for the local United Way chapter, announced that amount for the fundraising effort to benefit five essential needs organizations: CASA of San Benito County, Chamberlain’s Children Center, Community FoodBank of San Benito, Emmaus House and Sun Street Centers.

Fortino said the nearly $153,000 raised far eclipsed last year’s record-breaking $126,000 in fundraising for 12 Days of Giving.

The Community Foundation for San Benito County organizes the effort with partners that include the United Way of San Benito County and various local business sponsors. This is the seventh year for the campaign, in which donations are matched by those 12 Days of Giving sponsors.

Fortino believes the match is one of two big draws for donors.

“I think really like getting a match, and people love giving for the holidays,” she said, noting how United Way is the largest donor. “They love knowing it’s going in and out. It’s coming in and going right out to those nonprofits.”

She said the United Way “loves it.”

“It’s all of our programs we support with funding during the year anyways,” she said. “It’s a great way to give them extra help.”
