Roadwork to cause delays on Highway 25 bypass

A roadway safety improvement project to correct the super elevation and widen the existing shoulders along Hwy. 25 from Sunnyslope/Tres Pinos Rd. to San Felipe Rd. in Hollister is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 1, Caltrans officials have announced.

Motorists will encounter single lane daytime closures at various locations; details are as follows:

Hwy. 25/ Northbound from E. Park St. to San Felipe Rd.

  • Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm;
  • Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm.

Hwy. 25/Southbound from E. Park St. to San Felipe Rd.

  • Monday through Friday from 7 am to 4 pm;
  • Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm.

Hwy. 25/North and Southbound from just south of Sunnyslope Rd. to E. Park St.

  • Monday through Friday from 7 am to 5 pm;
  • Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm.

Motorists can expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Electronic message signs have been posted alerting motorists of this construction work scheduled to complete this fall.

  1. Roadwork includes reconstruction of all curb ramps at six intersections of Hwy. 25 from Sunnyslope Rd. to San Felipe Rd. Detours for pedestrians will be provided.
  1. A roadway section on Hwy. 25 between Santa Ana and San Felipe intersections will be rebuilt. This work should be carried out in two stages:

  1. Stage 1: Both lanes of southbound Hwy. 25 will be blocked off with temporary guardrail (K-rail). Northbound Hwy. 25 lanes are to split up (traffic switch), one for northbound and the other for southbound traffic.
  1. Stage 2: Stage 1: Both lanes of northbound Hwy. 25 will be blocked off with temporary guardrail (K-rail). Southbound Hwy. 25 lanes are to split up (traffic switch), one for northbound and the other for southbound traffic.

The contractor for this $6 million project is Graniterock Company of Watsonville.
