The Women’s Fund Advisory Committee of the Community Foundation for San Benito County is excited to announce their first INSPIRE event. This year’s event will highlight the new opportunities being offered to girls and women through increased focus on education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The keynote speaker for this event will be Corrine Warnshuis, a passionate women’s empowerment advocate who believes that community-centered movements have the power to change the world.

Five years ago, she became the first executive director of Girl Develop It, a national nonprofit that provides affordable opportunities for adult women interested in learning to code. She has grown GDI from a small grassroots startup organization to a thriving national movement with more than 110,000 women participating in 60-plus communities across the country — from Burlington, VT to Fargo, ND and from New York City to Los Angeles.

Prior to joining GDI, Corinne produced large-scale technology conferences like Philly Tech Week and Baltimore Innovation Week. She began her career at WHYY, Philadelphia’s NPR and PBS affiliate.

Corinne has spoken at the White House and given keynote addresses at technology conferences like Dreamforce, Tech Inclusion, and RedHat Summit. She’s shared the stage with Marc Benioff, the founder and CEO of Salesforce, who honored her with their first-ever Core Values Award.

After completing her degree in sociology at the University of California – Santa Cruz, and becoming the first in her family to graduate college, she moved to Philadelphia. There, she’s been recognized as “Connector of the Year” by the Rad Awards, and as an upcoming “Keeper to Watch” by LEADERSHIP Philadelphia. She is also the recipient of the Valentine Foundation’s “Visionary Leader Award,” and in 2016 she completed the Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

We will also hear from Dr. Kathleen Rose, president of Gavilan College, about their STEM education courses and how they are being promoted to women to encourage careers in these fields that have traditionally been occupied by men.

This first INSPIRE event will be held on Tuesday, April 23 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. A table of eight can be purchased for $500. Tickets are available online via our Facebook page – Women’s Fund for San Benito County, from the Community Foundation website: www.givesanbenito.org, or can be purchased in person at our offices located at 829 San Benito Street, Suite 200, Hollister.

The deadline to purchase tickets is April 11.

All proceeds from this INSPIRE event will be used to help fund grants to local nonprofits serving women and children.
