With five confirmed coronavirus cases, county focuses messaging

There are no more confirmed cases of coronavirus in San Benito County as of 2:15 p.m. Wednesday beyond the five cases – and one fatality – reported as of Tuesday.

David Westrick, the newly hired public information officer for the county brought on to communicate about COVID-19 impacts locally, said he expects to put together regular updates for the public as this pandemic unfolds.

He will be in communication with departments at the county to get information for the public, he said.

He noted there is a frequently asked questions form from the county that is now available to residents through various online networks, while other potential communication tools are in the works.

“We’re going to roll out some more information here pretty soon that will give folks a little more transparency,” Westrick said.

He confirmed to San Benito Live there were no new cases reported as of this afternoon. That came after Tuesday’s news that a Hollister man in his 60s – who recently traveled to Thailand and has underlying health conditions – had passed away from the virus.
